We just wanted to let you all know how well your kids did on the first day of school.  It was so nice to see them all and meet a few new faces.  They were all so interested, attentive, and ready to participate!  We started the day off with greetings, introductions, and songs.  This week is loaded with lots of lessons before we begin our work period where the children can freely explore the room.  It is important that we first teach them about respect for the studio, their teachers, and each other.  Our first lesson began as a group discussion where the kids gave suggestions on what kind of rules we should have for their classroom.  They came up with some really good ones on their own such as “no hitting,” “no running in the classroom,” and some silly ones, too, such as, “no bumping into walls!”  After we got some good suggestions, we presented them with the “ground rules” of our classroom and explained to them how their suggestions fell under each rule.  Here is the list of rules that we presented that will continue to be practiced throughout the year:

We were able to demonstrate some of these rules today through role play, stories, and we all practiced as a group how to use our manners during snack time and lunch time.  We are really excited with how well they responded to everything and we are looking forward to teaching them how they can benefit from the material in the classroom.

Typically, we will send you a news letter telling you about the week every Friday, but we figured you might want to hear how their first day of school went.  We have included a couple photos from snack and lunch today.  Enjoy and we will be in touch soon!
