Hello Everyone,
This week, the kids thoroughly enjoyed their daily work cycles and outdoor play. Each child seems to be branching out in new areas since our parent teacher conferences, and we are happy to hear many kids asking for lessons during work cycles. While we taught individual based lessons during work cycles, we had at least one group lesson each day. Below is a list of some of the lessons we taught as a group this week.
Note: For anyone new to the blog, we just want to let you know that if you see a word underlined and/or in a different colored font, you can usually click on it and get linked to a photo or a brief description of the word in order to get a better visual.
Counting By Tens: We gave a lesson on counting by tens with our our ten boards and beads. We were pleased to hear how well the kids caught on as we counted as a group.
Map of Mexico & Flag of Mexico: After having a lesson on locating Mexico, each child had the opportunity to color a map and flag during the work cycle.
Phonics words with “th.” As we have been learning that when you put some consonants together to make a new sound, we looked at words with th this week such as thanks, thorn, the, tenth, etc. During circle time, our students took turns thinking up words that had th sounds. The most common that they all seemed to think up included the “the” and “Thanksgiving.” We also reviewed words with sh. We offer word books along with double sandpaper letters for tracing practice during the work cycle.
Story Book Box: Carrie added a new story and with objects to act the story out with in our story book box. After reading it during a circle time, many students had fun acting out the story with the objects. This week’s book was a very silly story about a farmer and his stubborn farm animals, “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type,” by Doreen Cronin.
Here are some more photos from work cycle to see what your kids have been up to…
Happy Weekend!
