Last Week of February 2014

Dear Parents,

We had an overall pretty peaceful week, starting off our days with some meditation in the mornings.  Sometimes, we would just take a few moments to do some deep breathing and think happy thoughts while listening to the vibrations of a singing meditation bowl. One morning, the kids especially enjoyed finding a spot in the studio and resting while listening to some guided meditation tracks to start their day off on a positive note.  Just to give you an idea of just how peaceful and calming this experience is for them, here is one of the tracks by Easy Meditation offered on Youtube: “Light as a Feather.

Group Time Lessons

FLAGS of EUROPE: Miss Carrie gave a lesson on places in Europe and introduced the flags of Sweden, Romania, France, and Italy.  Some children enjoy holding the flags and walking around rugs for balance during the work cycle.

LAYERS of the EARTH: Miss Angelique introduced a new globe that allows the children to explore the inner parts of the earth.  We discussed some of the different temperatures and properties of each layer, and during work cycles, students explored these layers with the new model.

 Practical Life Lessons

CLEANING & POLISHING TARNISHED JEWELRY

We gave a lesson showing some ways to scrub and buff tarnished jewelry to get it to shine again.  The kids would get excited about the end results, showing everyone their “shiny jewelry.”

CONDITIONING & POLISHING LEATHER

The kids enjoyed polishing leather with a “conditioning oil.”  We offered olive oil instead of a potentially dangerous leather protective oil (just to be on the safe side).

Visitor of the Week: Maddy

Maddy is a little girl from the infants class that came to visit us one day last week.  All of the kids that greeted her knew to be gentle and patient.  She had a blast hanging out for a little bit during the work cycle.

And as always, some productive photos from work cycles.  Many students worked independently or had individual based lessons.
