Dear Parents,
Our first week back to school was sunny, upbeat, and very busy. Everyone seemed to be in great spirits, happy to be back at school. Each morning, we made time to go over our fundamental lessons to teach about respect, including caring for the environment, caring for each other, and caring for ourselves. We also had some general lessons and reminders about how to utilize popular works during the work cycles. Kids couldn’t wait to begin work cycles to try out familiar material as well as some new items on the shelves. Work cycles have been very lively as we teachers are on our toes to keep our students focused and productive. We are working quickly around the room to observe each child, and if they need help, we are there to remind them about how to best handle the material so that they may benefit from the challenges that the work has to offer. While your child takes material from the shelves, they first learn to neatly place the work on a rug or table mat in a manner that teaches them about order and personal space. Once they are finished working, they are taught to clean up the material neatly and to place it back just as they found it on the shelf. Our little ones are very much in practice, and we are keeping a close eye on them to help in case they could use some direction with following all of the steps required of each work. Overall, they are very much enjoying this time to explore all subject areas of our studio. Much of the material of our classroom is meant to help build problem solving skills, fine motor skills, independence, and a sense of order. Already, we can see that we have a very confident bunch of students that are up for many of the challenges this classroom has to offer.

To Learn More, ask your child!
I could go on and on about the benefits behind each material above, but we will get to that as the year goes on. For now, take the opportunity to spend some quality time with your child by going back through the photos and ask them what they can tell you about each image. This is a chance to learn more about your child’s peers as well as some of the works that your child is interested in exploring.
I hope that this first blog post was helpful and I look forward to seeing anyone who is able to stop by tomorrow evening for our open house!
See you soon,
Angelique
