January 31st News Letter

Hello,

Well, this week certainly ended up feeling pretty short, with no school one day followed by a delay due to the winter weather… Hopefully everyone was able to enjoy the time off and that it wasn’t too much trouble.  When the kids got back to school, many of them were so excited to share about their chance to play in the snow!  Though it didn’t feel like we were able to fit in too many lessons this week with the schedule changes, we were really happy to see how well the kids handled all of the transitions this week.  We ended up having long work cycles on cold days, and it was nice to see how creative the kids get when they have this opportunity.

Favorite Book of the Week: Baby Bear Sees Blue, by Ashely Wolff.  The kids enjoyed the illustrations and guessing what was going to happen on the next page, i.e., what color Baby Bear was about to discover…

Educational Books Read During Group Times: Respect, by Kimberley Jane Pryor, Being Fair, by Robin Nelson, Our hearts, by Charlotte Guillan, and Making a Difference Reducing Garbage, by Sue Barraclough.

And Just to get the kids excited for the next holiday we will celebrate at Indigo, we read Max’s Valentine, by Wells and My Fuzzy Valentine, by Naomi Kleinberg.

Events & Visits this Week

Today, we had Emma’s Celebration of Life.  She celebrated her 3rd year in this world.  Today also happens to be the Chinese New Year, a holiday that Emma and her family celebrate.  Happy Chinese New Year!emma

This week, we had some little visitors since other schools have been closed or on delay.  We welcomed Berkli as well as Bill’s big sister, Mariana.

Nothing really went as planned this week with all of the changes in the schedule, but somehow things just worked out…  Today, several kids were inspired to dance and play music, so we got out some instruments for them.  They’ve been working on keeping beats as well as some slap and sweep techniques on the drums.

Since we mainly focused on work cycles this week, we’ll leave you with recent photos from work cycles.  I (Angelique) didn’t have my camera with me most of the week, so some of these images may be from the week prior that hopefully I haven’t shared yet.  Just a note, to new parents:  Sometimes your child may only be seen once in a newsletter, or not at all, depending if they are absent at all or if I am just focusing on showing particular works.  Other times, it may seem like your child is featured.  This is probably because they happen to be in the same photo as another child. I  try to be fair and make sure I show everyone once.  It’s hard to keep track of all of the photos when posting sometimes, so if your child is not always in the news letters, that doesn’t mean I don’t have a ton of photos to share with you during the parent-teacher conferences!  I will give you a disk with all of the photos that I haven’t posted.
