Montessori Material Reviewed During First Week of School

This list was also posted in Friday’s newsletter on the first week of school.  More lessons are to follow and we will be sharing more in depth about the benefits of Montessori material as we carry on through the year.  

MATERIAL COVERED THIS WEEK:

Practical Life Lessons

-How to use table mat

-How to carefully carry trays with glass dishes on them

-Transferring material from one dish to another by grabbing, spooning or tonging

-Transferring water from one bowl to another with sponge

-Carefully pouring water from one glass pitcher to another

-How to push chair under table and how to scoot forward to sit close to the table

-How to care for indoor plants, including trimming dead leaves, watering, misting, and cleaning dusty leaves

-Table Manners language such as ‘please,’ ‘thank you,’ ‘you’re welcome,’ and ‘may I be excused?’

-How to roll up and use table mats and floor rugs

 

Language

Matching picture cards, placing them in order from left to right

-Metal Insets and colored pencils for using stencils

-Writing letters in the sand with one finger

-Beginning sounds letter mugs, including lower case letters s and b

-Sand paper letters, including lower case letters o, a, s, b, and x

-Emotions- using different colors to express a mood and to introduce new vocabulary to express oneself

 

Sensorial

-Pink Tower

-Brown Stairs

-Knobbed Cylinders (red)

-Knobless Cylinders (red box)

-Sound Cylinders

-Using Blindfolds to focus on sound or touch

-Touch tablet texture board

-Color box 1 & 2 (matching colors and recognizing names of colors)

 

Math

-Counting days in the month

-How to care for long bead chains and cubes

-Keeping a beat by counting
